Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is a technique used to install underground pipes, cables or conduits without having to dig trenches along the entire route. This method is especially useful in areas where the impact on the surface needs to be minimized, such as road crossings, rivers, urban areas or sensitive terrain.

The Process is Carried Out in Three Stages:

• Pilot Drilling: A pilot hole is drilled in a curved or inclined path, starting from a point on the surface to the final destination underground.

• Reaming: The pilot hole is enlarged to allow the passage of the pipe or conduit to be installed.

• Installation: Finally, the pipe or cable is introduced into the drilled hole, being pushed or pulled from the destination end.

Horizontal directional drilling is an efficient and environmentally friendly solution, ideal for projects where it is crucial to avoid large excavations. In addition, it optimizes both time and costs in the installation of underground infrastructure in complex or congested terrain.
