Reamers and stabilizers are key tools in drilling operations, especially in directional and horizontal drilling, with the goal of improving wellbore trajectory control and hole quality.

Reamers' Objectives:

Hole Enlargement: The main objective of a reamer is to enlarge the diameter of the already drilled hole to the desired measurement, ensuring that the dimensions of the hole are correct and uniform throughout its length. This is especially useful when the original hole is smaller than necessary.

Improving Hole Quality: Reamers smooth out irregularities or roughness in the walls of the hole, providing a more uniform hole and reducing areas with potential obstructions or stuck points.

Preparing for Pipe Laying: By enlarging and conditioning the hole, reamers facilitate the installation of casing or completions, ensuring that they have enough space to be placed efficiently.

Stick Reduction: By removing loose materials and cleaning the borehole walls, reamers minimize the risk of drilling rigs getting stuck in irregular formations.

Purposes of Stabilizers:

Trajectory Control: Stabilizers are used to keep the wellbore heading in the correct direction, minimizing unwanted deviations in the wellbore trajectory during drilling. This is essential in directional and horizontal drilling, where trajectory control is critical to achieving subsurface objectives.

Vibration and Oscillation Reduction: Stabilizers help reduce vibrations, oscillations and other unwanted movements in the drill string, providing greater stability to the drilling system. This improves process efficiency and reduces equipment wear.

Rate of Penetration (ROP) Optimization: By improving the stability and control of the drilling tool, stabilizers allow for better contact between the drill bit and the formation, which can increase the rate of penetration and improve overall drilling efficiency.

Tool Protection: Stabilizers help to better distribute forces along the drill string, reducing wear at specific points and prolonging the life of drilling equipment

Both tools contribute significantly to improving the quality of the drilled hole and the efficiency of drilling operations, ensuring that the project is completed safely and effectively.

Fixedblade Stabilizer

The Fixed Blade Stabilizer is ideal for all drilling locations in vertical or deviated wells where drilling gauges are clearly established. With its improved hydrodynamic shape, created using industry-standard computational fluid dynamics modeling, the Fixed Blade Stabilizer serves to reduce clay balling while simultaneously increasing overall drilling efficiency.

The unique blade profile and orientation enhance BHA stabilization by reducing torque, drag, and torsional vibration – all key causes of hole enlargement and subsequent BHA component failure.

Domee Hybrid Reamer

This is a hybrid rower while drilling. This innovative design has a similar profile to the fixed blade stabilizer, but provides a longer overall blade length to accommodate a unique 3-stage taper with different cutter types. The 3-stage taper was created to ensure a gradual cutting action starting with 14 degrees at the bottom, 5 degrees in the middle, and 2 degrees as a transition zone to the hard facing.

The pin side has numerous TCIs distributed across the 3 stages with flat PDC cutters located close to the hard facing for additional protection. The box side is similarly configured, but also integrates different pin PDC cutters for additional back reaming capabilities.

This hybrid is the ideal tool to place as a top stabilizer for additional protection for the BHA, ensuring back reaming capabilities, without intervening with any weight on the bit or torque issues.

ClearPath Eccentric Reamer

The ClearPath Eccentric Reamer is designed to improve drilling efficiency by eliminating parallel misalignment sections, keyways, micro doglegs and helping to clean and displace cutting beds that can lead to rubbing and compaction issues.

The ClearPath Eccentric Reamer achieves this through optimized placement of the low torque helical hybrid cutting structure, combined with a flow accelerator and drilling cuttings shaker.
